Hello friends! This post just might put Subway out of business, so make sure to sell off all of your Subway stock before this recipe takes off.
Very few recipes are more satisfying than a sandwich. Even a simple pb&j can be a reliable lunchtime staple that leaves you wanting more. But the more elaborate the sandwich, the more delicious it becomes. This sub is absolutely imploding with flavor. Today I am sharing a special recipe taught to me by my dear friend Jonas, and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we both do.
Jonas Taylor’s Famous Sub Sandwich

Before I met my ex husband in college, I dated a man who would remain a dear friend to me for years to come. What you might not know about little old Doris here is that before I lost the weight and became a food blogger, I went to school to be a marine biologist. I had a passion for the great blue beyond, and wanted to learn everything I could about the creatures that lived within it.
With a few friends and my college professors, I embarked on an ocean journey to study and observe the blobfish, a deep sea creature with a gelatinous body (see photo on the left). Since it lives at depths of 2,000 to 4,000 feet, we had to utilize a submarine for our aquatic adventure. Our objective was to study its eating patterns, as it is known for being an ambush predator which waits for other creatures to float by before it sucks it into its mouth.
However, once we reached our desired depth, I could tell straight away that something was wrong. Water began to leak in, and the power in the sub began to flash erratically.
Luckily, our radio still worked and we were able to call for help.

A deep sea diver by the name of Jonas Taylor fearlessly scuba dived into the ocean and attempted to drag us to safety. But as he approached our ship, something else happened. A massive, shadowy creature began attacking the sub. While my colleagues were ripped to shreds in a bloody, watery, guts infused mess, Jonas took off his scuba mask, placed it over my own face, and swam me up to safety.
It was love at first sight. We began dating immediately, and quickly became engaged. Jonas was always at my side from that moment onward.
However, the attacks continued. We both were flown over to the MANA One Research facility in China. Jonas then began to suspect that these attacks were coming from a megalodon, an ancient shark thought to have gone extinct about 3.6 million years ago. Jonas began to look for ways to stop to meg before it could attack again, but it attacked a beach in China, ravaging hundreds of innocent civilians and staining the ocean red.
Luckily, Jonas with his rippling muscles was able to climb atop the Meg and stab it in the eye, mortally wounding the creature. But he was never the same after that. He became cold and withdrawn. Before he left me, he gave me one final gift. A megalodon fillet with which we made and shared a delicious sub sandwich.
Years later after I left my ex husband, we reconnected on Facebook once more, where he has frequently asked me to send him some money in the form of apple gift cards. Although his messages contain many typos, it is so nice to keep in touch.
What you’ll need for this recipe:
- Megalodon Fillet – While a megalodon fillet can be hard to come by, I luckily have had a few hundred pounds of the original meg’s carcass in my freezer for years. I recommend reaching out to your local aquarium, but you can substitute with a fillet o’ fish in a pinch.
- Bread of choice – I recommend a crusty loaf of Italian bread for the best taste and texture.
- Assorted veggies – Personally, I like to add tomato, lettuce, pickled onion, and roasted veggies. Feel free to customize it with whatever vegetables you love.
- Mayo – Something about mayo compliments the fishiness of the meg fillet perfectly, but you can also use tartar sauce!
- Pickles – If you’re into that.
Important tip for success:
Now before you jump right into making this delicious sub sandwich, make sure you follow this important tip for success. In order to get the sub just right, you’ll need to make it implode. Consider purchasing a high pressure chamber for this recipe, or simply submerge it in deep, deep waters.
